Offered the week before classes begin each August, New Faculty Orientation (NFO) is a signature kickoff event. NFO welcomes new faculty and instructors to campus, builds peer networks, and highlights the unique teaching needs of UNCG and our students.

Research and Engagement Orientation
The Research and Engagement Orientation is open to all new faculty and instructors. Learn more about the services provided by the Office of Research and Engagement, begin planning your research agenda, and jump into the campus research culture.

The Office of the Provost invites all new faculty to attend the New Faculty Welcome Reception on (TBA).
New faculty will receive an invitation from the Office of the Provost directly.



Campus Community Workshops
There are several campus trainings and programs that connect faculty and instructors as support for campus communities and networks:
- Creating a Campus Culture of Care: UNCG has a strong Campus Culture of Care, information on UNCG’s broader approach to campus wellbeing, supporting student mental wellbeing, and resources/opportunities.8
- Mental Health First Aid: Prepares faculty/instructors to identify mental health needs and refer students to resources.
- Question. Persuade. Refer. Training: Identifying students in distress, identifying suicide ideation, and referring students to emergency campus support.
- Recovery Zone Training: Supporting for students in recovery.
- Green Zone Training: Supporting Veteran and Military affiliated students.
- Safe Zone Training: Supporting LGBTQAI2S+ students and creating an ally network.

Getting yOur Essentials
Get your UNCG Spartan ID that provides access to campus spaces, campus events, and offers discounts at the UNCG Bookstore.
New faculty can pick up their campus keys at Facilities Operations located on the second floor of the Sink Building.
Per UNC System policy, the syllabus will includes specific items and is public record. Instructors should discuss syllabus requirements with their Department Head/Chair or School Director.
The UNCG Bookstore is your one-stop shop for all things Spartan. UNCG faculty/staff receive a discount with your Spartan ID.

Faculty Personnel Services (FPS) oversees key personnel process for faculty appointments, from payroll to promotion/tenure.

UNCG’s Faculty Senate is the an essential aspect of the faculty governance structure.
The University Teaching and Learning Commons (UTLC) serves as the pan-institutional center for teaching and learning support.
The Division of Student Success coordinates efforts to support undergraduate education at UNC Greensboro through close collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and administrative units across campus, in the community, and with partner institutions.
The Office of General Counsel provides legal guidance to administrators of UNCG when they are acting on behalf of the University, including topics related to policy interpretation, compliance, and institutional mandates.
Processes & Procedures
Faculty Success (formerly Activity Insight) is the campus interface for faculty activity reporting and tracking, including annual faculty reviews.
Personnel Forms for hiring and pre-employment actions.
Forms and process for credentialing faculty/instructors for teaching in accordance with UNCG Policy.
Support for teaching effectiveness planning and preparing documents including self-narratives, teaching effectiveness frameworks, peer review, and perspectives on the evaluation of teaching and learning.

Life in the GSO
Greensboro, also know as GSO, is an important part of the UNCG experience. Located in the center of the state, GSO is at the heart of NC’s cultural and economic growth. UNCG is designated as a Carnegie Community-Engaged campus, supporting programs, scholarship, partnerships, and more in the Greensboro/High Point community.

City as a Living Text for Learning
With a booming aviation and automotive industry, world-class art and theatre scene, and state of the art medical services, Greensboro makes for a rich experiential space.

Guilford Courthouse National Military Park
Explore Greensboro’s pivotal role in the American Revolution by visiting the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park. Part of the US National Parks, the park features a monument for General Nathanael Greene, Greensboro’s namesake, and the soldiers who provided the devastating blow to Cornwallis’ troops before they surrendered at Yorktown.

International Civil Rights Center and Museum
On February 1, 1960, four students from NC A&T took a seat at the Woolworth lunch counter in Greensboro sparking a national sit-in movement to desegregate the US South. Today, the Greensboro Woolworth is home to the International Civil Rights Center and Museum, where you can relive the early sit-in movement and explore the fight for Civil Rights across the globe.

Greensboro Science Center
A science museum, aquarium, and zoo, the Greensboro Science Center is a great place to spend the day or an afternoon. Featuring educational and conservation programs, GSC moves beyond entertainment to education.

Downtown GSO
Downtown Greensboro (#DGSO) has undergone a rich revitalization over the past decade. With great restaurants and hotels, unique shops, and entertainment, #DGSO is a great place to be.

LeBauer Park
Located in the heart of Downtown GSO, LeBauer Park is a quick one mile walk from campus and features cafés, splash pad, dog park, sensory garden, ample seating, and a beautiful lawn.

Steven TANGER Center
The Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts is a state-of-the-art performance venue. Only a mile walk from UNCG, the Tanger Center features broadway productions, concerts, Greensboro Symphony Orchestra performances, comedy shows and all types of family entertainment.

Greensboro Aquatic Center
The Greensboro Aquatic Center is a top national aquatic facility, hosting USA Swimming meets, U.S. Masters Swimming, and U.S. Water Polo matches. You can catch NCAA, ACC, YMCA and USA Diving competitions right in your backyard.

Trails and greenways
Greensboro is home to over 100 miles of natural and paved trails. From hiking to biking and running, GSO has you covered. The crown jewel is the Greensboro Greenways.

Sports teams and More
Greensboro is often called Tourny Town, as it hosts many national and regional tournaments. From the ACC Hall of Champions to the Greensboro Grasshoppers, you will find hometown teams and great venues that excite every sports fan.
Getting to Know the Piedmont

NC Zoo & Botanical Gardens
Located in Asheboro (40 mins south), the NC Zoo & Botanical Gardens is the largest habitual zoo in North America. Showcasing animals and plants from North America, Africa, and – coming soon – Asia, the NC Zoo is a fun and educational experience for all ages.

Tanglewood Park
Located in Clemons (40 mins west), Tanglewood Park is home to the famous Tanglewood Lights Show, BMX Racing track, Stables, Golfing, Aquatics Center, Fishing, and much more. Tanglewood is a fun recreational hub.

Old Salem Museum & Gardens
Located in Winston Salem (30 mins west), Old Salem Museum and Gardens is a living history experience. Exploring early life of Moravian, Black, and Indigenous communities of the US southeast regions, visitors can step back in time for an immersive 18th century frontier experience. Old Salem is home to the The Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA) and Salem College.

The Piedmont Triad is home to a rich and diverse educational legacy with leading state universities, HBCUs, historic liberal arts colleges, and innovative community colleges. UNC-Greensboro has great neighbors and partners.
NC Agricultural & Technical State University (NCA&T)
The largest Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in the nation, NC A&T is nationally recognized for excellence in science, technology, mathematics and engineering (STEM) education. With an impressive alumni list, like Ronald McNair, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Jibreel Khazan, Gen. Joseph McNeil, the late Franklin McCain, and David Richmond, NC A&T is a rich UNC System partner in research and education.
Guilford College
The Quaker-founded Guilford College, has been a beacon of social justice and educational innovation since 1837. Serving as the first co-educational institution in the US South, Guilford College is a four-year liberal arts college. From its role in the Underground Railroad to recent work with refugees, Guilford College is an important partner in education.
Bennett College
Founded in 1837, Bennett College is an Historically Black College and University (HBCU) serving women and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Producing remarkable global leaders, including Yvonne Jeffers Johnson (former Greensboro Mayor) and Carolyn R. Payton (former Director of the PEACE Corps), Bennett College has a rich history of excellence in education.
Greensboro College
Located right next door to UNCG, Greensboro College is a United Methodist-affiliated liberal arts institution founded in 1838. Greensboro College was the first chartered college for women in NC and one of the first colleges to offer co-educational opportunities in 1912.
Guilford Technical Community College
With campuses in Greensboro, Jamestown, High Point, and Colfax, Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) is one of 55 community colleges statewide. GTCC is the hub of aviation education in the Triad.
Randolph Community College
With campuses in Asheboro and Archdale, including an Emergency Training Center, Randolph Community College (RCC) is one of 55 community colleges statewide.
