Teaching Tips | Academic Integrity and Student Expectations

Posted on August 23, 2022

This section is full of timely and evidence-based practices to apply in your teaching.

  • UDL/Accessibility: This fall marks the start of UDL/Accessibility Teaching Tips, a new series for the UTLC Newsletter. Each week we’ll share information that focuses on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) or accessibility. As you’ll learn in the weeks ahead, UDL and accessibility are connected, but they’re not one in the same. This week, we’re starting with the basics of UDL. Watch What is UDL, a short video that explains exactly what UDL is and how it can enhance student learning.
  • Inclusive Teaching: In addition to weekly UDL/Accessibility tips, each week we will also feature a tip on inclusive teaching. Our first tip is a reminder to consider major religious holidays as you plan major assignments, assessments, and class activities. Subscribe to the Religious Holidays Calendar to stay up to date with holidays that are important for many students at UNCG. In addition, please remember that the Find Your Well-Being Here module is available in Canvas Commons to add to your courses this fall.
  • Scaffolding Scholarly Work: Faculty set the expectations early in the semester for academic integrity, but do students understand these expectations? Scaffold the practice of creating ethical, scholarly work with your students. Ask students to share their understanding of citations. Model these expectations by citing outside work in your lectures and resources. Explain your process with your students to show how you complete your academic work by citing outside sources. Learn more about how to help your students create ethical, scholarly work.
