No. These are the only items that constitute the syllabus.
Some policies, like University Policies (e.g., Accommodations, Title IX, Academic Integrity, etc.) are now listed in a single document that can be shared directly with students: https://go.uncg.edu/universitypolicy. This document is updated each semester by the appropriate offices.
Other items, like course calendars and generative AI statements, are considered course level policies and course information. Instructors can share this information in a manner that best aligns with their disciplinary standards and teaching approach. The UTLC has provided templates that can be used as a starting place for course information, course policies, and campus academic & support resources.
Campus Academic & Support Resources are also listed in a single document that can be shared directly with students: https://go.uncg.edu/academicresources. This document is updated each semester by the appropriate offices.
A syllabus template is available at go.uncg.edu/syllabustemplate. You will need to download a copy of the template to your computer or OneDrive. The template is pre-formatted to meet accessible standards (e.g., headings, table headers, etc.).
The template also includes directions for posting the syllabus to the Syllabus Library.
Questions About the Syllabus Library
Per the UNC Regulation 400.1.6[R] and the UNCG Syllabus Policy, all UNCG syllabi must be posted to a public repository that we are calling the Syllabus Library. The Syllabus Library is accessible via syllabus.uncg.edu
The official syllabus for the course is the syllabus posted in the Syllabus Library. Faculty/instructors can download a pdf version of their syllabus from the Syllabus Library to post in their course. Additionally, faculty/instructors can provide students with a direct link to the course syllabus in the Syllabus Library for their current semester. However, no other document posted in the course will be the syllabus, and no other document should be listed as the syllabus.
The page labeled “Syllabus” in Canvas navigation is a standard page in Canvas that cannot be renamed at this time. The page provides a quick assignment calendar and space for other text. The link will no longer automatically be visible to students, but can be re-added to the student navigation.
Directions for Adding Canvas Items to Navigation:
- Click “Save” at the bottom of the page. The item will now appear in your left navigation pane.
- Click on “Settings” in the left navigation pane
- Click on “Navigation” on the tabs across the mid-top of the page
- Pull the item you would like added to the left navigation to the top list on the page. You can reorder the items in this list by clicking and moving them with your mouse.
A note is automatically added to the page redirecting students to the Syllabus Library: “The official syllabus for this course can be found in the Syllabus Repository. Information below is not part of the course syllabus but does provide context for this course.”

Per the UNCG Syllabus Policy, if a syllabus is unavailable on this date due to reasonable operational limitations, such as when a course is under development or the instructor is not yet assigned, the syllabus should be posted to the Syllabus Library as soon as possible but no later than the first day of classes for that academic semester or session.
Notify your department head/chair/director as soon as possible if your course syllabus will be delayed due to operational limitations.
If the section is added prior to the 7 days before classes begin due date, the standard due date for that semester should be followed.
If the section is added within after the 7 days before classes begin, the syllabus information should be added as soon as possible. The library will be updated every day until the 10th day of class. Instructors who have had a new section added should check the syllabus library the day after the section is on the schedule and update the syllabus as soon as it appears.
All instructors of record will automatically receive access to the Syllabus Library for the semesters they are teaching. All department heads, chairs, and school directors will receive access the Syllabus Library every semester. You will login using your UNCG Single Sign On (SSO) from the homepage. If you are a department admin or designee, please have your department head/chair/director contact the utlc@uncg.edu to request access to the Syllabus Library.
Once you select the course term, prefix, and course number, a dropdown menu will appear with section numbers. Select the section number for which this syllabus applies. A second checkbox menu will appear listing all sections for the course; leave this checkbox unchecked.
If you are posting the same syllabus for multiple sections of the same course, you can select multiple sections when posting the syllabus. Once you select the first course section number, a checkbox menu will appear with a list of sections offered that semester, and you can select all sections that the syllabus will apply to.
Questions About Changes and Special Circumstances
It will depend on the change. Changes to attendance requirements, grade percentage/point breakdowns, or required texts should be updated.
Changes to Student Learning Outcomes must be done through university curriculum processes and should not be changed on the syllabus until the changes have been approved by the University Curriculum Committee (UCC) or the Graduate Curriculum Committee (GCC). These changes are not retroactive and go into effect for the academic year that follows the approval.
Once a syllabus is submitted, the individual who submitted the syllabus for that semester is the only person that can edit the entry. They would click on the +Syllabus Maintenance link on the top right corner of the Syllabus Library page and follow the steps to access the course and section.
If you are not the original author/poster of the syllabus for that semester, but need to make an administrative change, contact the utlc@uncg.edu to update access.
Each section with a unique CRN for the semester will have their own syllabus entry for the semester. You will find the special section listed with the traditional section numbers, and you can upload a syllabus following the same process.
